For the first time in many years, Canvasback Missions returned to Ebeye, joining hands once again with the Ministry of Health & Human Services. This renewed partnership brought hope, healing, and critical health services to our community — a true testament to what we can achieve together.
Ophthalmology Services:
264 patients received eye care, including screenings and glasses.
96 cataract surgeries (and counting!) were performed, with one surgeon extending his stay to continue serving patients through the weekend.
Dentistry Services:
133 patients received dental care — all with the incredible work of just one dedicated dentist.
Leading this week’s mission in Ebeye were Hospital Administrator Ms. Leilani Hino and Medical Chief of Staff Dr. Joaquin Nasa, whose guidance and coordination ensured the smooth delivery of services and the strong collaboration between visiting and local teams. In true Manit spirit, Ebeye MOHHS staff and the community worked side by side with the Canvasback team to achieve this success. Canvasback Executive Director Jacque Spence noted:
“This was by far the best mission we've had, and we owe it all to the hospital staff.”
We also extend our sincere gratitude to JICA Volunteer Nutritionist Ms. Ikue Minamizaki. Although her stay was shortened due to family needs back home, her contributions to nutrition education, patient diet support, and healthy meal planning have strengthened Ebeye Hospital’s services and will have a lasting impact on community health.
This mission highlights the renewed spirit of partnership and the power of working together for healthier communities. Komoltata to the Canvasback team, our MOHHS staff, and the community for their dedication and teamwork in serving the people of Ebeye.
